The Alchemist

What power in the universe can transform base plastic in shiny metal? Why, the desire to obtain more Warmachine figures, of course! Yesterday, I headed down to the Dueling Grounds for my bi-weekly drubbing and, lovely assistant Stu in tow, unloaded a few old D&D Miniatures and came away with a goodly amount of Warmachine metal in trade. This gives me more options in what I can field at the 500 point level and also allows me to play 750 point games.

I’ve come to the realization with 4 games under my belt (and 4 loses), that my vanilla Cygnar force is lacking:

  • Commander Colman Stryker (Warcaster)
  • Lancer (Light Warjack)
  • Ironclad (Heavy Warjack)
  • Journeyman Warcaster (Solo)
  • Charger (Light Warjack)
  • Long gunners (Unit)
  • Stromblades (Unit)

While good and simple, a force like the above against Hordes armies chock full of special abilities and synergies is lacking in it’s competitiveness. I was glad to see there were a couple of Warmachine armies at the event, but my timing was poor and didn’t get a chance to play against them. I’m working on switching things up a bit with the following that I traded for:

  • Centurion (Heavy Warjack)
  • Hunter (Light Warjack)
  • Trenchers (Unit)
  • Captain Victoria Haley (Warcaster)
  • 3 Stormsmiths (Solo)

Tooling with the lists a bit, I realized I needed at least one more figure to push the list to a viable 750 point army: a Trencher Master Sergeant and Sharpshooter (Unit Attachment). This will allow me to field 4 jocks in total, with the Hunter under control of the Sergeant.

I almost went spend crazy on useful solos, but stepped back from the brink and only bought one: Alten Ashley, Monster Hunter. This dude is specifically designed to take out Warbeasts and unit leaders, something I find I need quite desperately.

Now to start painting (crap, I haven’t finished the Long gunners yet….)!
