Reasons for “Living”: ZANZIBAR!

There’s nothing like a dose of the ol’ stomach flu to put one’s life into perspective.  Kind off hard to enjoy anything when you’re virtually consigned to a single room in your house for 24 hours.  I’m back in the saddle now, folks; lean and hungry for good geek stuff:

  • Early reviews of The Incredible Hulk seem very positive.  I hear there’s a 20 minute climactic battle between the Hulk and the Abomination; I can’t recall such a protracted slugfest in a movie since the infamous “sunglasses fight” in Carpenter’s They Live.
  • Battlefield: Bad Company is out on Live in demo form.  I was prepared for a crap-fest like the disappointing Frontline: Fuel of War, but was pleasantly surprised to find its Battlefield 2 with a mercenary twist.  Multiplayer feels very much like every other iteration of the BF franchise but with a much tighter ground control mechanic.  No more capture-point roulette: attackers and defenders know exactly where they need to go an what they need to accomplish over the course of a map.  Its very pretty, has the best sound of any BF game, has catchy music and injects some badly needed humour.  Why am I still compelled to play Battlefield games when I’ve been essentially playing the same thing for years?  No idea, but it’s damn fun.
  • I had time over the weekend to go through the 4E DnD core books and overall I’m impressed.  Wizards need to get their asses in gear with Insider: I really want to play this thing.
