Rockband: Breaking Up?

April 18, 2008

rockband-breaking-up

Found, an unsigned letter from a member of the band Gütbücket, apparently to the other members of the band.  Those who are familiar with the relationships of the band members might speculate that the letter was written by drummer Lars.   Gütbücket’s management denies the veracity of the letter.

You decide:

Guys, I’m worried about the band. I’m worried about Gütbücket.
The band hasn’t played a gig in ages, and hear the fans are drifting away. Going on to bands that play more often. Like the Who or something.

Can you think back to when the band started? How it wasn’t about anything but the music. And then it was about the fans? Gütbücket was bigger than all of us. It was not just a band, it was a movement. Perhaps even, a way of life. And now…Well, what’s it about anymore? We have tour bus, a jet, all the trappings of success. But how long can success last if the band doesn’t play?

I wonder if maybe the band if falling apart. Are we going the way of other bands that had a touch of success and then fell apart like a house of cards that had a card snatched away from it? Bands like Lowest of the Low, Dig Circus, Cats Can Fly, and T’pau?

Talk to me guys, is the band breaking up, and no one wants to say?

What does this mean for our intrepid rock stars? And worse: what does it mean for their fans?

Will we one day see an instalment of Behind the Music featuring Gütbücket? Or worse, a “Where are they now” story?
